Shinjuku Vs Asakusa

Discussion of travel to Japan. Questions and requests for advice about travel in Japan

Shinjuku Vs Asakusa

Postby waitressvn on Sun Sep 06, 2009 2:49 pm

Hi,
We are in Tokyo late November and I am trying to decide between the Shinjuko Prince (recommended by my daughter from her recent trip) and the Ryoken Shigetsu in Asakusa. Both are similar pricing and I am keen to stay in traditional accommodation. We will be doing all the normal things that we can squeeze into 4 days, including Disneyland, fish markets, Government Towers, Tea ceremony, Temples, shopping etc. etc.
Any input on which would be the better place to stay would be greatly appreciated?

Thanks

Shinjuku is more center. It's almost next to Harajuku and Shibuya.
You can walk back home after late drinking party. Don't forget the nightlife in Shinjuku. ;)
Also the most convenient JR-line "Yamanote line" goes trough Shinjuku. If you want to go somewhere, there is easy access available.

Asakusa is also good and more quiet. It's situated on the other side of the town than Shinjuku. You can go to Asakusa with 2 different underground lines. It should be cheaper to stay there than in Shinjuku. Asakusa is more traditional as can Tokyo be. Shinjuku that is famous from skyscrapers as Asakusa is known from a temple.

Both places are good but I might choose Shinjuku.
Have a nice trip :)
